Unfortunately, dental treatments have a scary reputation for many people. In fact, approximately 50% of the population avoids routine dental check-ups and/or treatments because of fear and anxiety. Thankfully, these patients do have options to stay on top of their dental health!

Dr. Mike treats many patients from the Fox Cities area with Oral Conscious Sedation in order to make them feel more comfortable and reduce their stress when receiving dental treatment. Let us help you have a positive dental experience!

Who is a candidate for oral sedation dentistry?
Oral sedation dentistry is appropriate for individuals 16 years of age or older. It’s ideal for people who have anxiety about receiving dental treatments and/or who have been neglecting their oral health due to fear of dental treatments. For patients with very minimal anxiety, other options may be more appropriate. Dr. Mike will discuss all options to reach the best treatment decision for each individual.

Is oral sedation dentistry safe?
Like all medical procedures, there are some possible risks. However, for most individuals, oral sedation is extremely safe. At Damrow Dental we strive to provide the safest situation possible. We discuss all concerns and perform a thorough health history review in a consult prior to any treatment. If further information is needed regarding a patient’s health history, Dr. Mike will contact the patient’s medical physician before proceeding.

Will I be awake while I am having oral sedation?
Patients are awake with oral sedation, but in a subdued state. The best way to describe it is that patients simply feel very relaxed and groggy. Of course, all of the treatment areas have been completely numbed, so there is no discomfort.

Will I remember my appointment?
The medication that is given for oral sedation typically causes a slight amnesia effect. Therefore, most patients remember very little of their procedure.

Will I need a ride to and from my appointment?
Yes, all patients who are undergoing dental treatment with oral sedation must have a driver accompany them to and from the appointment.

Will I be able to go to work the day after my appointment?
Under most circumstances, patients are able to return to work the following day. However, depending on the type and extent of the procedure(s) performed, an individual may prefer to stay home from work the next day.
